Who We Are
The Old Bende Cultural
Association (OBCA) is an
offspring of Old Bende
Union(OBU) which was
started with a heavy dose of
nostalgia in Houston in 1988
by seven indigenes from the
erstwhile Old Bende Local
Government(OBLGA)area of
the then Eastern Nigeria. At
that time, the geo-political area
under the administrative
tutelage of OBLG stretched
from Arochukwu to Umuahia
and included such towns as
Ututu, Ihechiowa, Ohafia,
Abiriba, Nkporo, Abam,
Umuhu, Bende, Igbere, Item,
Alayi, Ozu-item, Isiukwu-ato,
Uzuakoli, Nkpa, Umuahia, and
Ikwuano. .Read More About Us

After the hurricane then what?
There is cause for concern if current trends of global warming continue. If the earth’s atmosphere warms, some of the warmth, according to scientists, will be transferred to the ocean. Hurricanes, like IKE, will become stronger and more frequent. Pretty scary!
A documentary sponsored by NASA, gives strong evidence that the ice sheet covering Greenland is melting twice as fast as scientists had anticipated. The run off from this ice sheet alone could cause sea levels to rise by as much as a quarter inch per decade, not to mention the melting from other polar ice sheets.
Scientists estimate that sea level will rise by roughly 15.75 inches (40 centimeters over the next 100 years. While this rise ..... Read More

President's
Message
Farewell Umu
Bende:
The current Executive
Committee members that
were elected, re-elected,
appointed and re-
appointed in 2005 and
2007, respectively, would
come to the end of their
mandate effective January
31, 2009, after the first
2009 OBCA general
meeting.
It has been a great honor
for me as members of
OBCA found me worthy
and capable to serve them
as the Executive (“Chief
Servant”) President for two
terms (four years). For
these four years I counted
on the members of the
executive committee,
Board of Directors, various
appointed committees
and the general house for
support and assistance
and I received it. Read More

Press Release NEW EXECUTIVE PRESIDENT
During the last OBCA general meeting on January 31, 2009, a new president was elected. Our newly elected executive president is Mr. CHUKWU OFOR. He hails from Uzuakoli and is married to EBERE. They have three children. We congratulate him and pledge to govern with him. If you were present at that meeting, you will appreciate what the BENDE- spirit is all about. "YES WE CAN AND YES WE WILL".
In the English language, the word "thus far", allows us to engage in forward-looking while backward-reflecting. As we forge ahead, it is paramount to express our deep gratitude to our able Eng. MIKE AWA for his leadership and vision. We are a better organization!
So, mark your calendar and plan to attend the next general meeting on February 28, 2009. The meeting will be hosted by, UZUAKOLI, IHECHIOWA & UTUTU. Please plan ahead. Again, we congratulate our new president and ask YOU to return to the family.

NEW OBCA PRESIDENT IS MAZI CHUKWU OFOR
Anything good is worthy to be emulated. Engr. MIKE AWA, our distinguished ex-president, gave us an
exemplary leadership and motivated others in living-up to their social potential in terms of OBCA. We
salute him.
Mazi CHUKWU OFOR has indicated a willingness to serve. This willingness must be matched by a
reciprocal measure of enthusiasm by ALL members of Old Bende to provoke critical thinking about “doing
good” for ourselves and for our community. Read More
BENDE EMBARKS ON LIFE INSURANCE
One of the nagging issues with all Cultural Associations or Organizations is what benefit a member derives from belonging. Monetary compensation or assistance almost always feature greatly in potential discussions at any death occurrence. So, how do we attain stability in an organization where some will not pay their dues no matter the benefit. Read More
